never stop learning because life never stops teaching
Hi!
Dr Z here!
I am one of those rare people in vet med- the ones that actually love people as much as they love pets. The desire to help others led me into a great career as a small animal veterinarian. After learning from a variety of teams and amazing schools (Clemson & NC State), I went on to practice small animal medicine in general practice.
I fell in love with all aspects of medicine and continued to teach my clients and my staff every day. Which is where mentoring and education became a passion for me as well. I developed a staff education program for professional skills and growth in my hospital. Then I went on to join a veterinary industry team (Alliance Animal Health) to further educate students about taking the NAVLE, developing professional skills, managing cases and help find future mentors!
Applied clinical learning isn’t always the easiest thing to teach or understand- seeing the cases and managing them with the families attached is a difficult task. But I love it! And I want the future of veterinary medicine to continue loving it too.
vetPOP! was created to help early career vets know its okay to approach cases different ways and hear perspectives from other colleagues to develop their own skills and ways of practicing medicine. But in a quick “take away” aspect and collaborative workshop that appeals to younger generations.
I continue to serve my veterinary community in industry, through service to the AVMA and collaboration with the VBMA.
If you need a mentor or a colleague to bounce cases off or just want to join in the vetPOP! fun- I hope we can connect soon- I can’t wait to get to know another lifelong learner!
